In short

A dry ridge and dry verge system replaces the sand-and-cement mortar on your ridge and gable ends with mechanically fixed clips and caps. DG Roofing Services only fits Manthorpe systems — the leading UK brand — so your ridge and verge tiles stay secure in high winds without regular repointing.

Dry Ridge & Dry Verge in Darlington & the North East

Crumbling mortar along your ridge and gable ends is one of the most common causes of loose tiles, leaks and storm damage we see across Darlington and the North East. Once mortar cracks, water gets in, freezes, expands and pushes the bedding apart — until the wind finishes the job.

A dry ridge and dry verge system does away with mortar entirely. Each ridge tile and verge unit is mechanically clipped and screwed into place, so it stays put through frost, rain and high winds with virtually no maintenance.

We only fit Manthorpe — the leading UK manufacturer of dry fix roofing products. We won't cut corners with cheap, unbranded kits that discolour, become brittle or blow off after a few winters.

The ridge and verge go together: they're usually bedded in the same ageing mortar, so when one starts failing the other isn't far behind. Doing both at once means one set of access and a roof that's secure from top to bottom. Only need one? We do dry verge and dry ridge on their own too.

The benefits

Why It's Worth It

01

No More Re-Pointing

Mortar needs re-bedding every few years. A Manthorpe dry fix system is designed to last without regular repointing.

02

Storm Resistant

Every tile is mechanically fixed, so ridges and verges stay secure in the high winds that strip mortar-bedded roofs.

03

Ventilated Ridge

Dry ridge systems allow airflow along the ridge line, helping to reduce condensation in your loft space.

04

Clean, Modern Finish

Crisp, uniform lines along your ridge and gable ends — a real kerb-appeal upgrade for your home.

Excellent roofer highly recommended

“We had water getting into our extension and noticed our ridge tiles were loose too. D G Roofing came out, knew exactly what the problem was straight away, and gave us a really reasonable quote. They were back just a couple of days later to get started, and even fixed a couple of small things they spotted along the way — all within the original price. Absolutely delighted with the work; I'd have no hesitation in recommending them!”

“Very pleased by the work completed, which was replacement ridge tiles using a dry ridge system and sorting out an issue with water drainage into the gutters. We were kept up to date on the job timing beforehand. The DG team was great to deal with. The job was completed promptly within 3 working days. The DG team made sure that the site was left clean and tidy. The price for the job was very competitive. I wouldn't hesitate to use DG Roofing services again if I have any more issue with my roof.”

Questions

Frequently Asked

Can't see your question? Call Daz — he's happy to give honest advice, even if you're not ready for a quote.

What is a dry ridge system?

A dry ridge system secures your ridge tiles with mechanical clips, screws and a roll-out ridge seal instead of sand and cement mortar. It's cleaner, more secure and needs far less maintenance than traditional mortar bedding.

What is dry verge?

Dry verge units are fitted along the gable ends of your roof (the sloping edges). They cap the end of each row of tiles, replacing the mortar that traditionally holds them in place and often crumbles away over time.

Why do you only fit Manthorpe?

Manthorpe is the leading brand for dry fix roofing products in the UK. Cheaper, unbranded kits can fade, become brittle and fail — we'd rather fit something we know will last and that we're happy to put our name to.

Do I need dry ridge by law?

Since the 2014 update to BS 5534, ridge and verge tiles on new roofs and re-roofs must be mechanically fixed — mortar alone is no longer enough. Existing roofs don't have to be upgraded, but dry fix is the most reliable way to stop recurring mortar problems.

Can you fit dry ridge without re-roofing?

Yes. In most cases we can remove the old mortar and fit a dry ridge and dry verge system to your existing roof, as long as the tiles and battens are in good condition. Daz will confirm this when he inspects.
